COLOR OF THE WEEK - SWEATSHIRT GRAY

who doesn't love a good blue?! a vast majority of people worldwide love blue! it consistently ranks as the most popular color in global surveys - often chosen by around 40% of people.
a small lesson to the color blue in general - blue is one of the three primary colors and represents calmness and is soothing. it is often linked to the sea or sky for obvious reasons. the color blue promotes feelings of peace and security, it's associated with confidence, freedom and imagination!

fun fact - only between 8-10% of people worldwide have blue eyes. also blue is the least common naturally occurring color in food, and is supposedly an appetite suppressant. my color teacher in college said to put a blue light bulb in your refrigerator if you're looking to lose weight (how much of that is true, i don't know). blue is also said to lower heart rate and calm the nervous system. it's an absolutely wonderful color and is one of my favorites!
if you're looking to paint your room a nice calming blue, look no further than sweatshirt gray by benjamin moore! it might look grey in a small sample but as a rule, it becomes more saturated when on a larger surface. this is a rule for any color. my personal thought and self-taught rule that i usually follow is - if the color is vibrant in a small paint swatch (like in a paint deck), it's too saturated for an entire room. there are exceptions of course. this rule is mostly directed to colors on the cool end of the spectrum.
sweatshirt gray is true to its name - a cool medium gray that is reliable and timeless. the color creates a soothing atmosphere to most spaces. sweatshirt gray pairs wonderfully with a crisp, bright white. it works just as well with a soft, warm, cream color. i love pairing most blues with it's opposite color on the color wheel - orange. ben and i have dubbed this beautiful pairing blorange. sweatshirt gray is a strong enough color for such a bold pairing!

again, i highly recommend sampling your paint colors before applying them to the entire room. i order peel and stick samples from samplize. samples range $6.95 - $9.95 depending on the brand of paint and size of the sample. this may seem high, but it beats purchasing actual cans of paint and a paint brush. samples are usually delivered the following day. this business concept was such a brilliant idea - it's a life saver when you want to sample a lot of colors!!
i hope you enjoyed this weeks calming, soothing color!!
hope everyone in the path of this cold arctic blast stays safe and warm.
